Background

In September 2001, the Registered Charity, Madley Environmental Study Centre (MESC) was formed. The aims of the Charity include providing Environmental Education to all ages and abilities, and to demonstrate the principal of sustainability through Education and practical demonstration with the proposed building and site development.

The main site consists of a nature reserve of seven acres, a diverse habitat of wetland, woodland and meadow, quite unique to Herefordshire, and secure with a perimeter fence. An adjoining eight acres and a further five acre site totals twenty acres which will be developed for both public access and to increase the biodiversity, with educational activities.

Our Location

MESC is located on land subject to a 99 year lease from BT, adjoining the site formerly known as the Madley Satellite Earth Station, this provides a stunning backdrop to the MESC site which is located between the villages of Madley and Kingstone in the Golden Valley, approximately seven miles south-west of the Cathedral City of Hereford.

Existing Facilities

MESC currently uses a cabin for providing education, with room for approximately thirty seats, the equipment varies from nets to microscopes and a variety of reference material.

An Outdoor Classroom Shelter, located close to the Ponds is extensively used, along with a smaller Shelter located within the Woods.

A proposal for a new building is currently in progress, having obtained Outline Planning Permission for developing the site.
